Student discounts aren’t just for undergraduate students. Don’t forget to take advantage of them! Below are just a few to refresh your memory.
Apple Music
Apple Music offers a discounted $4.99 per month subscription for students enrolled at degree-granting universities and colleges. When you join Apple Music, the student validation service UNiDAYS verifies that you’re studying for a bachelor degree, post-graduate degree, or equivalent High Education course. See more information here. If you already subscribe to Apple Music and want to convert your account to a student subscription, see here.
Auto Insurance
Most auto insurance companies, like Allstate or State Farm, offer a “good student discount” for full-time students under the age of 25 years old who maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The average discount is around 20 percent. Reach out to your auto insurance company for more information.
kite+key
kite+key is a Rutger technology store that is conveniently located right on campus. Every day pricing is Apple Education Pricing. That means that, as students, faculty, staff, or alumni of Rutgers, your pricing will always be lower than at the Apple Retail Store. kite+key also offers a Student Commuter Reward Program. If you’re a commuter and use mass transit through NJT, SEPTA, PATCO, or PATH for transportation to and from campus, you can receive gift cards in $50 increments. However, you cannot have purchased a parking pass or you are not eligible. For more information about the Student Commuter Reward Program, see here.
PATCO
Speaking of commuters, PATCO offers students a free Freedom Card, a fare collection system that makes riding PATCO trains more convenient than ever, which typically costs $5.00. Free cards are not pre-loaded with any fare and must be registered in the student’s name presenting the coupon. Download and print the coupon here.
Amazon Prime
Amazon Prime first offers a six-month free trial followed by a discounted $6.49 per month subscription for students enrolled at degree granting universities and colleges. To sign up for Amazon Prime Student, you just need your student e-mail. See here to start.
Bonus: Subsidized Loans
Direct Subsidized Loans don’t accrue interest while the borrower is in school, even if they are loans leftover from your undergraduate education. Students enrolled at least half-time in graduate school can choose to enter in-school deferment. However, when deferment ends, interest will be added to the principal balance, known as capitalization. Alternatively, you can opt for lower monthly payments. Student who want to continue tackling debt in school but have limited income can switch to an alternative repayment plan by tying payment to income or extending the repayment term.
